About MotoMorphic:
Who we are
MotoMorphic is a 3200 square foot storefront/service department/machine
shop located in bucolic Petaluma, California, about 40 miles north of
San Francisco. The front of the shop is the showroom, featuring MotoMorphic
project bikes, a diverse selection of used bikes, and some unique accessories
that you won't see anywhere else, including Fastbag tail packs, GatorRamps,
and IrfenBirks. (If you don't know what IrfenBirks are, you really
need to visit MotoMorphic)
The rear of the shop houses the service department and motorcycle
machine shop. The
centerpiece of the shop is our custom engineered frame rack designed and
built by Gerry Piazza, who has corrected thousands of the errors introduced
into motorcycle components by unintentional impact forging (that'd
be crashing). Surrounding the frame rack are the tools of the trade -
machine tools including milling machine and lathe, cutting and welding
equipment, hydraulics, bike lifts, toolboxes, and a variety of precision
measuring devices. This is the place where the magic happens.
The Staff
Jim Davis is the concept guy and founder of MotoMorphic. Gerry Piazza is the
shop foreman and Master Straightener, as well as Chief Fabricator. Our
A-technician Dave Mones and assistant fabricator Greg Baeders contribute
their considerable skills to creating very special bikes, and customer
satisfaction.
Gerry Piazza, Shop Foreman:
Gerry has worked in the motorcycle industry since 1978. He is a master
technician, machinist, welder and fabricator. He was sole proprietor of
Cycle Riders of Napa from 1982-1998, where he did everything from fix
mopeds to build pro stock drag and road race bikes, including engine and
chassis set up. In 1983 he engineered and built a motorcycle frame and
wheel straightening rack, and since then he has straightened hundreds
of frames and wheels, as well as countless other components. Gerry also
utilizes the frame rack as a fixture to assemble custom frames with perfect
alignment, a technique that he has developed into an art. Gerry has a
very competitive spirit. He started drag racing in 1986 on a 180 HP Kawasaki
KZ-1075 turbo drag bike that he built, and in 1991 he got hooked on road
racing. Gerry hand built a custom Formula Single racebike that he raced
in the AFM from 1992 until 1998, when he moved to Michigan. For the two
years he spent in Michigan (1999-2000), he competed with the GLRRA road
racing organization, and won the 1999 Expert Sportsman Championship. His
knowledge as a technician, ability to troubleshoot, fabricate, and tune,
as well as his riding experience make him an invaluable asset to the company.
We're very proud of the fact that Gerry can literally fix anything.
Jim Davis:
Former engineer, now scared of going fast, has strange ideas about what is good
when it come to motorcycles. Builds on other people's bad ideas about
project motorcycles, too. Used to operate the Hawk Connection, raced a
Hawk GT in CCS, AFM Formula 650 Twins, and AMA Pro Thunder. Now races
YSR-50s, fielding a YSR race team called Joking Schmoes Racing. Learning
to hang glide, change diapers, and be a daddy. Very proud of his wife
Drusie and daughter Belle.
